“Organize More Reading Programs For Pupils,” First Lady Clar Weah Urges!

The First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, Clar Weah, and the kids at the KEEP reading in Paynesville

According to the Liberian Observer the First Lady of Liberia, Clar Weah, has urged the Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP) to organize more programs that will help improve the reading skills of Liberian children. Madam Weah made the statement over the weekend when she read two books – “Greedy Zebra and Anansi” and “The Pot of Beans” – to over 30 kids at the June Moore public school in Paynesville. 

Mrs. Weah said she is thankful for what the organizers are doing for the children and called on other organizations to introduce more reading programs that will improve the educational system for future generations. KEEP is a local non-profit organization that works at the grassroots level in three counties – Grand Gedeh, Gbarpolu, and Montserrado – providing various support in the education sector, particularly at the primary school level. Madam Weah promised to help improve the programs, saying she loves kids who are willing to learn through such programs that will help strengthen the educational system. She added, “I feel proud to read to kids on my first visit as  first lady, and seeing what Brenda is doing for the kids, I am very impressed.”First Lady Weah promised to speak with the Education Minister and work with her husband to improve the livelihood of Liberian children because, she said, kids are her passion and Liberia’s future leaders.
