Women in Liberia are being frightened with the rise of gay Community

Reports by Mae Azango for the FrontPageAfrica (Monrovia) says:

Some Unmarried women say gay men in the country are responsible for broken love affairs accusing these gays of enticing young men with money to abandon their female lovers. 

Some of the women who were interviewed complain that majority of the men who are decent and have jobs and potential husbands are turning away from them and engaging in homosexual activities with their fellow men.

 "Who says we do not want to get marry and settle down like decent young women, but how can we be, when the men are taking our boyfriends as lovers," says Monica Cooper, a resident of Carey Street in Monrovia.

Women lament that gays who are bisexuals, would take their boyfriends in the name of love, and lavish 

money on them, usually results in the boys abandoning their girlfriends. On the busy streets of Monrovia at night, phone snatchers and thieves are seen roaming to steal, while call girls or prostitutes are in search of clients for the night.

In separate interviews with some of the call girls who asked to be paid for their time before being interviewed and their full names not revealed, the girls described the situation of men abandoning them for the love of money. "These gays who we call Dual Sims, are causing problems for us today because many of them are married in order to blind fool the Liberian people in covering up their dirty little secrets, while they are stealing our men from us,' says 28 year Rose, AKA Sweet Babe.

Rose laments: "I am not supposed to be living this kind of life but I had a guy who we stayed together for three years, but when we were catching hard time, one big gay man in this town, who people can call Big Daddy slept with my man and give him plenty money and bought him one SUV, so I was too local for him".

Sweet Babe had not completed her story when Theresa, AKA Heart Desire, interrupted, saying "What about me, my man traveled to Europe with one big minister in this town here and right after he came back, and I asked him, he slapped me and walked out? We already got man shortage here in Liberia since the war ended, but this gay them can't leave the remaining men for us. They will have their wives, then the small, small girls and after, they will have the young boys too, so what will they leave for us now?."

What's Men Take?

Some men have also accused CEO's companies and business, Bank Executives of attempting to sleep with them in order to get hired by those entities.

"I went to seek employment from a local cell phone company that I won't call the name, and the big man asked that I sleep with him in order to get the job as Marketing Manager", says a 26 year man claiming to be a recent graduate of the African Methodist Episcopal University who beg not to be named as according to him he does not have money to fight a big cell phone company.

Many of the young people who spoke with FPA say married gay men are called Dual Sim because they sleep with both men and women, while the original gays are called one Sim.

According to FPA: in 2011, FPA unearthed a story of young gays who admitted to being in relations with the same sex and needed freedom. Four youths told FPA behind closed doors that they wanted to live a normal life as normal partners do

It can also be recalled that Archie Ponpon, a Gay activist was beaten twice by angry mob, his mother house was burnt in the struggle for gay rights. He now serves as a court clerk of the Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice.

Gays Get Green Light!

Mr Ponpon  recently received a license from the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to operate a fully fledge local non-government organization (NGO) to protect human rights including that of gays..

"I am glad that the government has sees reason to recognize us because the rights of all need to be respected this is why we have considered to establish this NGO" Archie stated.

According to Ponpon, Liberians should not be discouraged about the involvement of gay rights in his advocacy as according to him, he believes in the protection of human rights and called on those who have similar ideology to come forward to support the NGO.

Respect Incorporated which according to its organizer was established in the swamp community of West Point is expected to open its offices early 2014.

World AIDS Day: December 1st 2013!

Today is not only a new month but it is also World AIDS Day. So I decided to create this blog post to mark World AIDS Day.

Well,World AIDS Day is held on December 1st every year, to honor HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) Victims in Liberia/World Wide. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about HIV and AIDS pandemic. It provides a platform to reflect on achievements made in response to HIV and AIDS.

In Liberia: Statistics have shown that AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007, and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007.

NEWS: Taylo's Hell Begins: Family members and supporters of ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor have said they are ready to take action against British interests for what they see as Taylor’s humiliation by the British prison authorities.

Victoria Addison Taylor, wife of ex Liberian president Charles Taylor!

Ex Liberian president Charles Taylor was transferred from the Hague into British custody on October 15, 2013. According to Taylor's family he is being held in one of Britain's highest security prisons, alongside notorious murderers, terrorists, psychopaths and paedophiles. 

Senator Sando Johnson, the spokesman for Taylor family has been one of the strongest critics of the UK, speaking against Taylor's alleged prison conditions, arguing that Taylor was being denied food and water at HMP Frankland in Durham County. 

The allegations made by Johnson have been considered rubbished and or nonesense by the British authorities.

The grim about Taylor’s conditions that have circulated in Liberia appear to have come from the prisoner’s current wife, Victoria Addison Taylor. She gave interviews to foreign news organizations, asserting that her husband was being denied a blanket and subjected to daily strip searches. She was asked as to how she was getting the information in Africa, she said one of Taylor’s daughters based in the UK, Charlene, has spoken to her father once since his incarceration. 

Despite the British denials of Taylor being ill-treated, the reports have sparked angry reactions from Taylor’s supporters, including threats to attack British interests in Liberia if the humiliation did not stop. Chief Cyril Allen, former head of the pro-Taylor National Patriotic Party (NPP) questioned the rights of British nationals to enjoy full freedoms in Liberia.

“Why should they be moving about freely in our country including the interior and at the same time humiliating our traditional leader?” was Allen’s question to WADR. He said Britain should realize that despite his conviction, their former leader is not just an ordinary person. The remarks by Allen and others appear to be being taken seriously by the UK, whose Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO0 issued an updated travel advisory on November 14, noting that: 
“Former Liberian President Charles Taylor is serving a long prison sentence in the UK following his conviction by the Special Court for Sierra Leone. 

Taylor’s supporters have warned that UK travellersin Liberia may be at risk of reprisal. You should be vigilant and avoid discussing political issues”. Meanwhile, Chief Allen says he is initiating a campaign to seek Mr. Taylor’s transfer from the British jail, saying he will start his campaign by galvanizing support in the legislature in Liberia and Sierra Leone’s parliament. “An act of Sierra Leone’s Parliament created the Special Court that indicted Mr. Taylor and not any charter of the UN or Great Britain”, Chief Allen argued, saying Taylor is a prisoner of Sierra Leone and not Britain.
